Former Lieutenant Governors of Newfoundland and Labrador

Lieutenant Governors are appointed by the Governor General on the recommendation of the Prime Minister of Canada and the Federal Cabinet. The appointment is for a period of not less than five years and the salary is paid by the federal government.

The first list of leaders below is those of the Governors of the British Colony Newfoundland (1729 - 1855) and the Governors of the Dominion of Newfoundland (1855 - 1949). When Newfoundland became a province of Canada in 1949, the position was then changed to Lieutenant Governors to reflect Newfoundland as part of the Dominion and no longer its own entity.
